Currently, I am a graduate student in the Vision Science PhD Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  My dissertation research is about the histopathology and image validation of outer retinal tubulation, a formation of degenerating cones and Müller cells, in age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.  By understanding diseases on the cellular level, clinicians can better understand non-invasive imaging, including optical coherence tomography, and treat diseases of the retina.
