Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO)
Future Faculty Program (July 16-18, 2011, St. Louis, MO)

The purpose of the ASCO Future Faculty Program was to provide graduate students with an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their success in an optometric academic environment as career-long, productive faculty members. The program attracts the most promising residents and graduate students from the schools and colleges of optometry who have demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing a career in academic optometry. The program was centered on the unique and important issues that graduate students face as they embark on a career in optometric education and was comprised of formal presentations, workshops, small group discussions, one-on-one mentoring opportunities and shared activities in the areas teaching and learning, scholarship and academic culture. Each attendee developed a long-term career plan with specific goals, objectives and action strategies.
